Orthotics for Sports Performance

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Orthotics are custom made shoe inserts designed to:

  • Reduce the risk of injury
  • Help rest an injured area
  • Reduce foot Pain
  • Improve back/hip/knee pain
  • Improve gait/performance
  • Cushion/overload painful areas on the ball of the foot

Orthotics can be off the shelf, semi bespoke or fully bespoke devices.

For some people the correct off the shelf orthotic is enough to treat their foot pain for others they need fully bespoke devices custom made for the feet. Like a having a pair of glasses prescribed, custom made orthotics are prescribed for you by a fully qualified, HPC Registered, Specialist (Musculoskeletal) Podiatrist, who will carry out a biomechanical assessment (gait analysis) and take moulds of the feet.

There are a wide variety of foot orthotics online, the best thing to do is consult a trusted mobile podiatrist / chiropodist in your area to ask for advice.
